Grain are Mattia Marchi and Jonas Wikström, two photographers based in Stockholm, Sweden. Grain was created as a platform for their collaborative projects.

The first project is "Stockholms Skor" - Shoes of Stockholm. During the summer of 2009 a series of photos were taken of peoples' shoes in Stockholm city. The basic principles outlining the project were that

- every photo should have a note of location and time - where and when it was taken
- only natural lighting was permitted
- all photos were to be taken within the city limits

The result - a great deal of pictures... The material was then edited down to about 170 images. The aim was to include both the common and the deviant, the high and the low. A representative slice of the city.

It could be interpreted as an art project or just a documentation of shoes. That is, as they say, in the eye of the beholder
